There is a Chinese saying that ‘the child is father of the man, you cannot make a crab walk straight’「三歲定八十、七歲看終身」. This can describe how a person’s habits and personality in childhood cannot be easily changed, and it can also be used to describe what education a person received in childhood, which has a profound impact on their personal development, growth, and career.
Music, tone, melody and beat belong to the category of artistic emotions, and are governed by the right and left brains respectively along with mathematics, space and logic. Listening to music can help fully unleash the potential of the left and right brains. Children’s brains are developing the fastest between the ages of zero and three, with an average of 40000 synapses per second, increasing in the cerebral cortex; learning music, language, and cognition is most crucial around the age of one.
Great professional and high-quality in early childhood music arts enlightenment education is of paramount importance to the future learning and development of our children. Thus, the mission of the Hong Kong Music and Performing School is to making a blueprint for the long-term development of early childhood music arts educators in Hong Kong, to enhance the professional teaching quality and professional qualifications of early childhood music arts educators, and to promote the sustainable development, great professional and high-quality development of Hong Kong’s early childhood music arts education industry.
